'Hat with a Pink Bow'

DAY TWO

'Hat with a Pink Bow'

0ils on board

20cm x 20cm

So day two is here and I'm already behind.

Discovered that if I work in oils I can't scan the painting at all times of the day and night as I would with acrylics, therefore I can only take a photo during daylight hours which, living in the UK means I'm limited to  8a.m. and if I'm lucky, 4p.m. and that's if the light is any good which is rarely the case.

(Think Dickensian, murky, misty-grey streets of London.)

Which is great if I didn't have a day job.

So after having a re-think it looks as if I'm going to have to paint a few ahead of time to compensate for said problem.

I've never painted  portraits before OR worked with oils so this is WAY out of my comfort zone.

I'm not sure I've made this challenge quite so difficult.

*makes note to self to knock new subject matter AND new mediums on the head should I ever foolishly take on a 30 in 30 challenge again*

It's a nod to a photo of my niece who had a professional photo taken of her aged 4.
(I've left out the tricky bits!)

Anyways, I'm have a fab time getting completely lost in my  painting where hours fly by, yet it feels as if it's just half an hour.

Off to start tomorrow's painting today, if that makes sense!

  1. Jules, I am so glad you visited my blog, because I am SO glad to meet you, because I am also doing this challenge with a full-time job. And I am also an acrylic artist choosing to paint in a new medium. I love your painting, so I think waiting for your photos is going to be worth the wait. Enjoy the challenge!

    1. Hi Meridith,

It's certainly going to be a challenge for us,me that's for sure. I read that you were doing a sketch at work during your lunch hour. That's dedication.
I read that it was really important for artists to carry a wee sketch book round with them at ALL times and to do mini sketches of really simple everyday things like matchsticks, a thimble, cotton reel, handle...basically anything!
